Technology Strategy & Exploration

Technology Strategy & Exploration

Explore the possibilities. Invest with a clearer view.

Perth-based technology strategy and exploration advice for Australian businesses: assess emerging technologies, test their relevance and plan trials that inform investment decisions.

When to engage

Recognise the decision in front of you.

Owners, executives, technology and product leaders weighing a new technology opportunity or deciding which ideas deserve further exploration.

Use this service when new technology presents an opportunity, but customer value, practical fit, maturity or the evidence for investment is still unclear.

  • You need to distinguish a relevant technology opportunity from an interesting demonstration.
  • A new technology, platform or product concept needs customer validation and a clearer value case.
  • Leadership needs a practical way to compare options and decide what to explore, trial, defer or stop.

The first piece of work

Technology Opportunity & Exploration Review

We agree the decision, evidence, stakeholders and deliverables before beginning. The review gives you a basis for action and a clear view of any work still needed.

01 / What you receive

Useful outputs for the decision.

  1. A prioritised opportunity shortlist tied to the agreed customer or business need
  2. An options assessment covering practical fit, maturity, dependencies, risks and evidence gaps
  3. A proposed customer-informed trial plan with scope, ownership, baseline measures and criteria to proceed, adapt or stop
  4. A decision brief and working readout with recommended next steps before further commitment

02 / What you contribute

The context that makes advice useful.

  • A decision sponsor, the business opportunity and known constraints
  • Relevant customer insight, existing technology proposals and available evidence
  • Access to agreed business, technology and product stakeholders

Share only high-level context in an initial enquiry. We agree how detailed or confidential information will be handled before you provide it.

Scope and boundaries

The review provides advice, options and a proposed trial plan. It does not include building prototypes, running trials, developing software, procuring technology or implementing systems. Technical delivery, security assurance and other specialist work are separately scoped where needed.

Timing, fees and continuity

The schedule and fee depend on the scope, evidence and stakeholder access required. These are agreed in writing before work starts, together with Steve’s availability, responsibilities and completion or transition arrangements.

What Steve does

Steve frames the business opportunity with the sponsor, reviews technology and supplier options, tests assumptions with agreed stakeholders and shapes a customer-informed trial plan. He brings the technical, customer and commercial evidence together for an investment decision.

How the advice is developed

Steve leads the engagement and is responsible for the advice. Where appropriate, AI supports research and analysis within the agreed approach to handling information. Recommendations are checked against the evidence and business context.

Initial enquiries are reviewed by people and are not sent to AI or automated decision systems for classification or decision-making.

Before you begin

A few useful questions.

Is technology exploration only about AI?

No. AI may be relevant, but the starting point is the business opportunity or customer need. The review can consider other emerging technologies, platforms and digital product concepts within the agreed scope and available expertise.

How is this different from AI and workforce transformation?

Technology exploration asks what is worth investigating or trialling and what evidence should guide investment. AI and workforce transformation focuses on how AI changes tasks, roles, skills, governance and adoption. The work can connect, but the first decision and deliverables are distinct.

Does the review include building a prototype or running a trial?

No. The initial review defines the opportunity and proposes how it should be tested, including ownership, measures and decision criteria. Prototype development, trial delivery, systems integration and specialist assurance require a separate scope and agreement.

What if the evidence does not support investment?

Deferring or stopping is a valid recommendation. The review identifies uncertainty and evidence gaps so leaders can judge whether further exploration is justified. A successful demonstration alone does not establish commercial value or readiness for wider deployment.

Start the shift

Bring the decision or challenge as it stands.

A first conversation can establish the fit, the work needed and a useful next step. You do not need a polished brief.
